There are two ways to download data: the Data Center, and packaged data. In the Data Center you can create customized extracts and codebooks. Alternatively, if you want to download the entire PSID archive for a specific year or every year since 1968, you can do so as a packaged data file. Full questionnaires and additional documentation are available under the packaged data option.
Data Center
We recommend that you use the Data Center, which is where you create customized extracts and codebooks.
Questionnaires and Packaged Data and Documentation
-
Packaged Main Data, Documentation, and Questionnaires
Download compressed (.zip) files containing the PSID main data since 1968. Files include data, data definition statements, codebooks, cross-year indices, and more.
Questionnaires include Computer Assisted Interviewing Documentation, scanned paper versions of questionnaires, and box-and-arrow type questionnaires. The Computer Assisted Interviewing
Documentation is an interactive, simulated questionnaire much like the actual PSID survey instrument.
- Packaged Supplemental Data and Documentation
Occasionally, PSID creates supplemental data that includes many interesting calculated variables. Some supplemental data are also available in the Data Center.
