    Two-day Conference on Pensions, Private Accounts, and Retirement Savings over the Life Course, November 20 - 21, 2008. | Agenda | Papers
    The Panel Study of Income Dynamics, with support from the National Institute on Aging, held a two-day conference on life course financial well-being November 20-21, 2008 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. PSID supported 5 research projects with small grants. The conference brought together these scholars and others in the area of life course financial well-being to generate additional scientific and policy-relevant findings, facilitate future collaborations including NIH proposal submissions, and provide feedback to PSID about possible needs for content changes and/or future data collections.

    The 40th anniversary of the PSID was celebrated at the 78th Annual Meeting of Eastern Sociological Society at the Roosevelt Hotel, New York City. The program is attached here.

  •   December 5 - 6, 2007
    The PSID hosted a two-day conference on the Event History Calendar Method for the U.S. Census Bureau on December 5 - 6, 2007 in Washington, DC. The goal of the conference was to provide scientific expertise to the Census in the enhancement of the SIPP in the area of event history calendars as a data collection tool.

    The Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS) at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), University of London, is hosting the International Conference on Child Cohort Studies, September 12-14, 2006 at Catherine's College, Oxford, England. The objective of the conference is to promote communication and comparison between those designing, conducting and analyzing large-scale birth cohort studies in different countries that began around the turn of the new millennium. Tina Mainieri will be presenting information about the Child Development Supplement to the PSID. (Conference Web Site)

    PSID staff hosted a workshop addressing the topic of time use measurement in the PSID from the perspectives of psychology, sociology, and economics.     • A research symposium entitled “Time Use in the Multiple Context of Children's Lives” will highlight research from the recently released Child Development Supplement, Wave II at the Society for Research on Child Development (SRCD) Biennial Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.     The Time Diary activity data from the second wave of the Child Development Supplement (CDS-II) are now available in the PSID-CDS Data Documentation Center . The time diary data were collected in the same way as CDS-I for one randomly sampled weekday and one weekend day. The codes were expanded to a four digit coding scheme to capture additional detail on extracurricular and community activities. See the codebook for details: Codebook. There are more than 99,000 activity records for 2,569 CDS response children.


  • August 02, 2004
    CDS II data files, based on data collected on 2,907 CDS children/youth aged 5-18 in the fall of 2002/ spring of 2003, are now available in the Data Center. These same children were interviewed in 1997 when they were 0-12 for CDS-I, also available through the PSID-CDS Data Center. Each data file is accompanied by a complete on-line codebook. In the Data Center, a map of the caregiver"s PSID IDs now accompanies all CDS downloads. This map can be used to link PSID main study individual data about the caregivers with the CDS data. A User Guide for CDS II will be available around Labor Day 2004; Time Diary data are planned for release in the early fall of 2004.
